What is a windshield repair?

Windshield Repair is a process that restores strength and improved visibility to a windshield that has been damaged, usually by a rock. Most repairs performed by a qualified repair technician will result in 80% to 95% improvement in visibility depending on the initial damage. Professional repairpersons use high quality equipment capable of removing air in the damaged area and replacing it with a high quality glass resin that will prevent further damage and improve the finished look of the repair.

Windshields and safety glass are made from a "sandwich" of plastic laminate between two layers of glass. An impact strong enough to damage the hard outer layer can cause a variety of chips, cracks, crescents, stars, or combination breaks. Often, the imperfection is tiny at the surface and expands into the familiar bulls-eye shape as it spreads toward the center layer. Most insurance companies will waive your deductible and pay for your repair.  They do this to help avoid costly replacement of your windshield should the damaged area spread to the point where repair is not recommended.

The repair is a process that utilizes modern technology to fill the damaged area on a windshield with special clear adhesive resin. When this resin is cured, the damaged area's strength is restored as is most of the clarity.

The repair is accomplished by injecting a bonding agent, called resin, into the damaged area using a vacuum process.  The resin bonds the glass surfaces together from the inside.  When exposed to ultraviolet light, the resin hardens like glass.  Our expertise ensures that the damage will be barely visible and is not likely to spread any further.

There was a time when a chip or crack in your windshield meant certain replacement. That's no longer the case. Modern technology makes it possible to repair windshields that would have previously been scrapped. Not only does this save your windshield, it also saves you money.

Why repair my windshield?

The purpose of windshield repair is to restore the strength of the glass and improve the optical clarity of the damaged area.  The damage may not completely disappear, but whatever scarring is left from the repair process will be minor.
Repairing a damaged windshield makes sense for several reasons. Repairs save money by preventing the need for costly replacement. Repairs are very convenient, and do not affect the integrity of the original factory seal since the glass is never removed. With the rising price of modern automotive glass and the high rate of faulty installations, it's a great alternative!

What kind of damage can be repaired?

Stone damage or stone "chips" up to the size of a 50-cent piece can be repaired. (Note: Some very small chips the size of a dime may not be repairable because of the location of the stone chip or the chip may be through both layers of glass then a replacement is needed) Best results are obtained when the repair is done before the damaged area becomes contaminated from car washing, inclement weather or other exposure.

Where do I get my windshield repaired?

New Image Auto Glass Repair and Replacement is completely mobile.  We come to you!  We will come to your place of work or home at a time that's convenient for you!

What do you do after a rock hits your Windshield?

The first thing you should do is find the impact point in your windshield. Examine the spot. If the spot has a cone, a circle deep in the glass or some little legs in the damage area that make it look like a star, you have a ding that needs repair.

The spot will need immediate attention or it could develop into a long crack that will stretch across the entire windshield and require the replacement of the windshield itself.

Are there any Temporary Band-Aids?

Place a small piece of clear plastic tape (clear packaging tape works well) -- approximately one-half inch by one-half inch in size -- over the impact point on the exterior of the windshield.

Do not place tape that will block or obstruct your vision while driving. The tape will not prevent the damage from spreading, but will keep dirt from getting into the cracks while you await repair.

What does a repair cost?

Most insurance companies will waive your deductible on your comprehensive insurance for windshield repairs, which means that this service comes at no cost to you.  Each repair costs a lot less than a windshield replacement! Rates for services obtained from your insurance agent or a cash quote on a repair can be requested by email info@newimageautoglass.com

Prices  vary from area to area but on average costs well under $100. Compare that to the industry average of $300 to $500 for replacing a windshield, more for the newer upscale model vehicles and you can see the savings!

Also, you can contact your Insurance Company and tell them that you want "New Image Auto Glass" to repair your windshield and we'll come to your home or office and repair your windshield.
